About us

O'Sensei

Welcome to the web site of the Genryukan Aikido, a non-profit martial art club created for the purpose of spreading and maintaining the integrity of the Japanese martial art of Aikido, as exemplified and developed by its Founder, Master Morihei Ueshiba. Our club does this by using the teaching and training methods developed by Kenji Tomiki Shihan, founder of Shodokan Aikido (also referred as Tomiki Aikido), though Traditional and Yoshinkan styles are also explored during the training sessions.

Kenji Tomiki

Genryukan Aikido is a member of the Zen Eikoku Tomiki Aikido Renmei, and therefore conform to the high standards set by the association, under the direction of Shaun Hoddy, 6th Dan. ZETAR is a member of the British Aikido Board as an independent organisation affiliated to the Aikido Development Society. ZETAR includes clubs in both the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland. As a member of this association the club enjoys a great wealth of knowledge and experience dating back over 40 years and regular seminars are held throughout England where the clubs can get together and share their experience of Aikido. We are located in Dover, Kent (UK) and we have strong links with other local clubs in Ashford (Gowaryu Aikido) and Cheriton (Mushin no shin Aikido). We aim  to create an environment where students can enjoy themselves and progress at their own pace, within their own capabilities and limitations. Aikido can be learned by all, and we have students from a very mixed backgrounds, ages and abilities.
