Christophe Courtin

Nidan, BAB Coach Level 1
Co-Founder & Senior Coach

Impressed by televised demonstration by Christian Tissier Shihan, Christophe took the plunge and started training in Aikido in 2002.He has trained mainly with Jim Dempster Sensei (Gowaryu Aikido), where he found his direct and efficient approach to Aikido very appealing, and also with Mark Hayes-Watkins Sensei (Katsujinken Aikido).

In 2007, Christophe was awarded Shodan (1st Dan) by the British Aikido Association. He got his Coach Level 1 qualification in 2009, allowing him to help teaching at Gowaryu and Katsujinken Dojos. In June 2009, he founded the Genryukan Aikido dojo in Dover under the umbrella of the ZETAR, enlisting the help of the Gowaryu instructors. He was then awarded Nidan in July 2012 by Shaun Hoddy and Greg Barton Sensei.

Genryukan is very fortunate to be frequently visited by Mick Pratt (4th Dan) who co-manages the BAA National Aikido Squad. Mick’s aikido is fantastic and we endeavour to follow his advice and learn as much as we can when he takes the class.

Christophe still thrives to try to improve his Aikido under the guidance of Jim Dempster Sensei and Shaun Hoddy Sensei. Genryukan Aikido has had an excellent start with dedicated students. Christophe is looking forward to pass on his love of the art for many more years whilst developing his own Aikido.
