Koryu and Randori training at Thanet dojo

Thanet Dojo are holding a 3 day intensive, including aikido koryu, randori and fitness training in preparation for the european competition in April.

Howard Popkin Sensei

We are very pleased to be hosting Howard Popkin Sensei from the USA, a long time student under Okamoto Seigo, founder of Roppokai Daitō-ryū and a student of Horikawa Kodo Sensei (longest serving student of Daitō-ryū Aiki-jūjutsu founder Takeda Sōkaku).  This is Popkin Sensei’s first seminar to be held within the UK.

Howard is a teacher of rare quality, profound, light-touch kuzushi, extensive technical knowledge and fine humour. His lessons and technical insights into the practice of aiki are true treasures for any serious student of aikido, judo and many other arts.

Course content
Overview of Daitō-ryū jūjutsu, Aiki-jūjutsu, and Aiki-no-jutsu
Relationship of Daitō-ryū techniques to Aikido techniques
Methods of analyzing techniques for improved efficacy
Methods for improving overall softness in techniques

Location will be at Genryukan Dojo, Clarendon & Westbury Community Centre, Belgrave Road, Dover, Kent CT17 9RA. – Easy access by car via the M20, Via train to Dover Priory Station. The Dojo is within walking distance (less than 10 mins from station).
